It feels odd to reach an age where things that I built as a young man begin to wear out or need replacing, yet also to do the work in ways that I think to myself “well, I won’t be alive to have to do this again.”
“It’s good that this is an abundant time of year for fruit and other farm waste because with 20 pigs now on the farm we’re gonna need to gather plenty.”
In which fall feelings have our columnist contemplating life’s bigger cycles: “Lately I’m fascinated by journeys in my life that have come full circle after decades.”
“On the one hand, a fella could spend a whole lifetime pulling star thistle and not get that far, but on the other, I can look at the pasture and see that I’ve made a significant difference over the last few weeks.”
