FORT BRAGG, CA., 9/25/26 — Fort Bragg is asking residents and businesses to cut their water use after a major break in the city’s primary raw water supply line at the Noyo River, the city said Thursday.
The city’s water system is still running, and drinking water service hasn’t been interrupted.
Public Works crews and specialized contractors are at the site building a temporary bypass while permanent repairs are made. The city didn’t say what caused the break or when repairs are expected to be finished.
Until the work is done, the city is asking all water customers to cut back. It asked people to stop watering lawns, washing vehicles, pressure washing and other nonessential outdoor water use.
Indoors, customers are being asked to run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads and take shorter showers. Anything that uses a lot of water should wait until repairs are finished, the city said.
“We’re asking our community to help us reduce water demand while our crews work to repair the damaged line,” City Manager Isaac Whippy said in the release. “Even small conservation efforts across our homes and businesses can make a meaningful difference.”
Fort Bragg gets all of its water from three surface sources: Waterfall Gulch, a tributary of Hare Creek; Newman Gulch, a tributary of the Noyo River; and the Noyo River itself, according to the city’s website.
The city said it will post repair updates on its website and social media and let customers know when normal water use can resume.
