UKIAH, CA., 9/23/26 — Residents can get a flu shot next month without leaving the driver’s seat. Mendocino County Public Health will hold a free drive-through flu vaccine clinic Saturday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon at its offices at 1120 S. Dora St. in Ukiah.
The clinic is open to anyone 9 years old or older. The shot is free, and no insurance is required, according to the county’s announcement. No appointment is needed and walk-ins are welcome, the department said in a post on its Facebook page.
The clinic is part of a county push to get residents their recommended vaccines this fall. In line with the California Department of Public Health, the county said, the message is simple: “Protecting yourself helps protect your family and community.”
On Sept. 4, the state health department and the West Coast Health Alliance, a partnership of California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington, released joint recommendations for the 2026-27 respiratory virus season. The state said the recommendations are informed by national medical groups, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Those recommendations call for a flu vaccine for everyone 6 months and older. Children ages 6 months to 8 years who are getting a flu vaccine for the first time should get two doses at least four weeks apart, according to the state’s guidance.
Families with younger children can get vaccinated through a health plan, a health care provider, a local public health clinic or a federally qualified health center, the state said, or can search for a clinic on My Turn, the state’s vaccine scheduling site. All vaccines the state health department recommends remain covered by health insurance regulated in California, the department said.
