UKIAH, CA., 9/17/26 — An annual tributary cleanup is scheduled for Saturday morning at a local park in Ukiah to promote stewardship of the Russian River watershed, Mendocino County announced Wednesday.
The Ukiah Valley Russian River Cleanup Day starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at noon. Volunteers will meet at Low Gap Park for a safety talk before dividing into teams to clean tributary sites that can carry litter into the Russian River.
Last year, 150 volunteers collected eight tons of trash, the county said.
Anyone interested in helping should bring sturdy shoes, work gloves and a water bottle.
County 2nd District Supervisor Maureen Mulheren, who has participated in this annual cleanup for longer than a decade, said the event is an investment in the community’s future.
“I really believe building a better future for our kids starts with showing them what it looks like to take care of our community and giving them opportunities to be part of events like this,” Mulheren said in a press release.
This cleanup was announced alongside recognition of Coastal Cleanup Day, Creek Week and Pollution Prevention Week.
