MENDOCINO CO., 8/6/26 — The Anderson Fire that began in Covelo and prompted evacuation warnings is now fully contained, the Covelo Fire Protection District said Thursday.
The blaze started Wednesday at 1 p.m. near state Route 162 south of Covelo and spread up to 205 acres in two hours, prompting evacuation warnings for a region from Wattenburg Road to Fairbanks Lane, east through Dobie Lane. The warning was lifted Wednesday evening.
Covelo Fire crews are doing mop up at the scene Thursday afternoon, ensuring there are no more hot spots that could reignite the fire.
The Covelo Fire Protection District said no homes were lost, but the fire did cause damage to greenhouses, storage containers, sheds and cars.
No injuries from the fire were reported, and the cause is under investigation.
