UKIAH, CA., 7/16/26 — A brush fire that broke out on the Lake Mendocino dam Thursday afternoon was held in check by a prescribed burn at the site weeks before, Cal Fire Battalion Chief Jared Minoletti said.
The fire, which started around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, burned one-quarter of an acre, up to the line of grass from a prescribed burn last month. On June 28, Cal Fire Mendocino Unit and Ukiah Valley Fire Authority burned what could have been potential fuel for Thursday’s brush fire.
“Thank God it was here,” Minoletti said, referring to the prescribed burn.
Cal Fire, Ukiah Valley Fire, and the Redwood Valley Calpella Fire Department responded to the blaze. The cause is under investigation.
