A National Weather Service Eureka graphic titled “High Tide/Coastal Flooding Outlook” shows expected coastal flooding in Northwest California from Dec. 31 through Jan. 4, noting 1 to 1.5 feet of saltwater flooding on normally dry ground and increased impacts from large waves; tables list high tide times and potential water levels for North Spit (Humboldt Bay), Crescent City, and Arena Cove, with thresholds indicating flooding may begin around 7.9 feet along the Mendocino Coast.
An outlook from the National Weather Service in Eureka shows elevated tides and potential coastal flooding along the Mendocino Coast from Dec. 31 through Jan. 4, with water levels expected to reach or exceed minor flood thresholds during morning high tides. Officials warn that 1 to 1.5 feet of seawater could inundate normally dry areas, with large waves potentially worsening impacts. (NWS via Bay City News)

MENDOCINO CO., 12/29/25 – Beaches and low-lying shoreline areas along the Mendocino Coast could face hazardous conditions and minor flooding as king tides arrive Wednesday, the National Weather Service said Monday.

According to the weather service, king tides may bring minor flooding to Arena Cove through Sunday. King tides are naturally occurring extra-high tides that occur when the sun and moon align and exert a stronger gravitational pull on the ocean.

Predicted morning high tides at Arena Cove are:

  • Thursday: 8:06 a.m.
  • Friday: 8:59 a.m.
  • Saturday: 9:51 a.m.

The highest risk of flooding is Friday, when high tide is forecast to reach 7.5 feet at Arena Cove. Coastal flooding can occur when water levels exceed 7.9 feet along the Mendocino Coast.

King tides could also impact low-lying areas in Albion, Fort Bragg and Mendocino, particularly harbors, beach parking lots and coastal trails.

Mendocino County’s many microclimates can produce varying conditions from one area to another. Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and weather alerts at weather.gov
