MENDOCINO CO., 12/12/25 – The Flynn Creek Circus is accepting applications for apprenticeships, the circus said Wednesday.
Founded in 2002, Flynn Creek Circus performs exclusively in rural communities across Northern California and the Pacific Northwest. The troupe features professional artists from Ukraine, Canada and the United States, all scouted by circus co-owners Blaze Birge — who also serves as artistic director — and David Jones. The pair perform in the show and travel internationally to recruit talent at festivals and competitions.
Core to each season is the cadre of apprentices that gain hands-on learning experiences in their chosen disciplines.
The circus is recruiting apprentices in marketing, lighting, stage, sound and performance. All apprentices are paid small weekly stipends and are provided housing throughout the tour, which runs May to January.
Apprentices also have access to the circus’ training space and workshops.
Applicants must be 18 or older, be legally able to work in the United States, and must be able to lift 50 pounds. Additionally, they must maintain their own liability insurance, have two references and be able to commit to the entire contract period.
To be considered, applicants must submit video links (if relevant), press photos, work examples, a resume, two references and one paragraph explaining what the candidate hopes to gain from the experience. Email info@flynncreekcircus.com with “apprentice” in the subject line to apply. Chosen applicants will be emailed in late March.
