UKIAH, CA., 11/17/25 – A Ukiah man was arrested Saturday after allegedly leading police on a drunken car chase with his toddler in the backseat of his vehicle.
Around 9:45 p.m., a police officer patrolling downtown Ukiah saw a white sedan allegedly fail to stop at a red light.
The officer attempted to stop the sedan in the 200 block of Mason Street. The driver did not pull over, leading to a pursuit, police said. The sedan allegedly sped through city streets, ran stop signs and red lights, and drove recklessly.
According to police, the sedan stopped briefly at the local hospital, Adventist Health Ukiah Valley, about a half-mile from where the chase began. A person got out of the passenger side and was taken into custody, then released.
After the passenger was dropped off, the chase continued. The driver sped through central Ukiah before crashing into a fence and a small creek at Cooper Lane and Betty Street.
The driver fled on foot and was chased into the creek by officers, where he was apprehended, police said.
He was identified as 28-year-old Ukiah resident Alexi Moises Rangel. During the arrest, he told officers his 14-month-old child was in the backseat. Police confirmed a child was found in the vehicle and transported to the hospital before being released to a family member without injuries.
Police also said Rangel exhibited signs of intoxication during the arrest and that open alcohol containers were allegedly found in the sedan. He was also on probation for a prior DUI conviction.
Rangel was transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation after the crash. He was released and booked into Mendocino County Jail on suspicion of felony child endangerment, felony reckless evading, and five misdemeanors: DUI, DUI with a blood alcohol level over .08%, driving on a suspended license, hit-and-run, and resisting arrest.

This guy is a danger to himself and to others. He requires a LONG stretch in prison to see what a really horrible person he has become and an opportunity to change.
