MENDOCINO CO., 9/17/25 – The Arts Council of Mendocino County and Mendocino County Office of Education are looking for artists, writers, designers, actors and musicians to offer in-class demonstrations and performances at schools throughout the county through its Get Arts in the Schools Program, or GASP.
According to the Arts Council, GASP seeks to “infuse the arts in the core curriculum and to involve and expose school children to quality, educational, curriculum-based artistic experiences.” It serves over 3,000 students annually, introducing students of all grade levels to a wide variety of art forms.
This year, the Arts Council will award $18,000 in grants.
To encourage participation, grants are available to support artists fees, prep time, materials and travel. In return, the recipient must provide performances, workshops or participate in a residency program at any public schools in the county.
To be eligible, applicants must be professionals in their field, have prior experience presenting an art program/project in a public or classroom setting, live in Mendocino County and be a current member of the Arts Council. If you aren’t a current member, you can join upon applying.
Interested artists without experience teaching or presenting in classrooms may be eligible for mentoring programs through the Arts Council upon applying for a GASP grant.
Art disciplines that are available include dance, music, theater, media arts, visual arts, art history, indigenous arts, literary arts and multidisciplinary arts such as printmaking, bookbinding and fiber arts.
Applications are due Nov. 14. More information can be found at https://artsmendocino.org/programs/get-arts-in-the-schools-program-gasp/.
