UKIAH, CA., 10/31/24 – An inmate from the Mendocino County Jail in Ukiah died early Wednesday morning in a hospital, the Sheriff’s Office said.
On Tuesday night at about 8:30 p.m., a corrections deputy made a routine check of pre-housed men inside a holding cell in the main jail.
Two men appeared to be asleep, but as time went on, the deputy became concerned about the condition of one of them, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Two deputies entered the cell and determined that the man was unresponsive and was not breathing, nor did he have a pulse.
Medical personnel were summoned and began lifesaving efforts such as CPR while they waited for outside first responders to arrive.
Personnel from the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority arrived and continued with additional advanced forms of lifesaving efforts. The man was ultimately taken to the emergency room at a hospital in Ukiah, where further lifesaving efforts were taken but did not work. He was pronounced dead at about 12:14 a.m. Wednesday.
A county medical examiner will determine the exact cause and manner of the man’s death, the Sheriff’s Office said. An autopsy was done Wednesday and a toxicology analysis is pending.
The identity of the man is not being released at this time pending identification and notification of his next of kin.
It’s sad that this is still happening after my mom’s death in 2015 something needs to be done about Mendocino county jail when is it going to happen you should contact the lawyer that I did maybe that’ll help maybe it won’t who knows his name is John Burris he’s an excellent attorney he’s out of Oakland and he will help you get your Justice we’re Justice is due long since due.
This makes me sick another person dies at the Mendocino County Jail. Imagine that they said the life saving things were done. It did not say that they Narcan him. They said he was unconscious doesn’t seem to me. They did jack shit for him. I knew Isaac and this is breaking my heart. He was a nice kid. Some needs to be done around here. This is the most corrupt county I’ve ever heard of.
I am very sad to hear about this. Isaac was a nice guy just trying to make it out there. I would really appreciate it if someone would get to the bottom of this.
