MENDOCINO CO., 10/14/24 – The National Weather Service issued a coastal hazard warning for Monday along the Mendocino Coast.
The service is asking people to avoid steep beaches, rocks and jetties.
The warning expires at 7 p.m. tonight.
According to the weather service, “large, unexpected waves can sweep across the beach without warning, sweeping people into the sea from rocks, jetties, and beaches.” The service also said that large objects such as logs can be moved by the waves, crushing pets and animals caught underneath.
“Don’t be fooled by an ocean that looks calm,” the service said. “There can be 30 minutes of small waves before a sneaker wave arrives…stay much further back from the water and never turn your back on the ocean.”
Mendocino County comprises numerous microclimates. To learn more about the weather and warnings in your area, visit weather.gov.
