MENDOCINO CO., 9/24/24 – To better help voters understand the stakes of the Nov. 5 election, the GrassRoots Institute (GRI) is hosting a biweekly series of workshops for the public starting Sunday.

GRI is a Mendocino-based nonprofit with the mission to “better our community because we value peace, justice, equity and sustainability for all.”

The workshop series, titled “Elections 2024: Saving Democracy for the Common Good,” is hosted by Jim Tarbell, author of “Justice Rising.” Various politicians and political organizers and analysts will serve as co-hosts.

“This election cycle has been quite a ride so far,” says the GRI.“We will provide a forum to discuss all the elections from the local to the national and work on ways to make our democracy better for everyone.” Depending upon what the elections hold — and whether there are court cases and demands for recounts — the GRI may continue the series through the inauguration of the next president on Jan. 20.

The continuing event allows for a wide range of subjects to be covered ranging from the candidates, ballot measures, the electoral process, money in politics, public policy and this election cycle’s impact locally and globally, and more.

According to GRI, the first workshop will be a facilitated discussion to learn more about what the community wants to learn about and discuss during the series.

“Elections 2024: Saving Democracy for the Common Good” takes place every other Sunday starting Sept. 29 from 3-5 p.m. at the Community Center of Mendocino, 998 School St., Mendocino. To attend, email Jim Tarbell at rtp@mcn.org.
