MENDOCINO CO., CA., 6/2/26 — A bond measure to provide funding for Mendocino College facilities and programs is short of the approval needed to pass, according to the initial results from Tuesday’s election.
Measure A had 52% yes votes, short of the 55% threshold for bond measures, according to the early returns Tuesday. The measure would provide funding for Mendocino College repairs and upgrading career and workforce education programs by authorizing $98 million in bonds from the Mendocino-Lake Community College District that will be funded by levying a property tax of $24 per $100,000 of assessed value on properties in the district. The bonds would be sold when and for however much the district needs for project funds.
If approved, the measure would fund job training and career education for healthcare and firefighting as well as remove any mold, asbestos and lead paint and make basic repairs to older Mendocino College buildings.
Initial results released just after 8 p.m. are from absentee voting. Election officials will continue to count ballots throughout the following days until official results are finalized by the county 30 days after the election and sent to the Secretary of State for certification.

-Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore: “Don’t these people ever give up?”
Revenue addicts never give up, anymore than any other addicts. Insatiable appetites, at our expense.
Facts not mentioned in the article:
We would be paying this property tax until the year 2060-2061 for a total payment of roughly $200 million (double the $98M bond).
We (in Ukiah Unified School District) are currently paying property tax on 6 different UUSD bonds until 2050. (But it only shows up as one item on your tax bill…very deceiving!) On my home, just those are over $1,000.
Our property’s value is assessed every year by the county (increased 2% annually) so the bond tax goes up as the assessment goes up.
At least report ALL the facts.
Same here. $975… These Schools better not have portable buildings anymore.
Agree with Theresa McNerlin!
Terrible game they tried to shell us! Dont fall for it. Much of the managers at the College, different cities, RCS etc cut their teeth on Mendo tactics.
Fatal to all functionality at this point.
County terrible shifts funds, plays hot potato.
Sraff quit move on to other government type settings. No coincidence all funded by the county.
We cant get staff but we will contract with our former staff when in new agencies.
People can not trust our l8cal government to do what they say they will.
Way too much public prodding and reminders are required to get the measures doing what they are supposed to do. We can not pick a short sighted benefit for long term insolvency makes no sense, that’s why it failed.
Oh, this is AWESOME!
Some of us have SEEN how Mendocino College spends our money. It isn’t for students and “affordable education.” The overseers of MC choose furniture as though they are a Fortune 500 company with 10+-figures of market cap.
Not one more cent to “education.” They can make do, as we little folks have to.
I suspect that once all the “votes” are counted Measure A will top the required 55%. Something like this happened in 2018 with a UUSD bond measure, when vote harvesting first started being allowed.
I think they did poorly promoting measure A. Social media was full of naysayers. There were very few promoters. I saw a few ads on the cables. They really need to up their game if they want to get something like this passed.
I agree with “wait a bit” they will spend the next month torturing those ballots until they get the desired outcome. Especially when it’s this close, the money is too much for them to let it go.
