MENDOCINO CO., CA., 6/2/26 — Initial results from two Mendocino County Board of Supervisors races on the ballot in Tuesday’s election show incumbent Ted Williams in the lead for the District 5 seat with 896 votes and Eric Hart in the lead for the District 3 seat with 389 votes.
For District 3, Buffey Wright Bourassa was in close second with 384 votes, Clay Romero was third with 344 votes and Russell Green had 209 votes.
District 5 has Kevin Evans in second place with 395 votes and Todd Lyly has 322 votes
Initial results released shortly after 8 p.m. include absentee voting, according to the county elections results page. Election Day voting numbers will be released as election officials continue to count ballots over the next few days, and official results will be finalized by the county 30 days after the election and sent to the Secretary of State for certification.
Mendocino County’s District 3 covers Covelo, Willits and Laytonville areas, and District 5 covers Ukiah to Mendocino to Gualala and over to Hopland.
In the last election for District 3 supervisor in 2022, less than 40% of registered voters in the district voted and less than half voted in the District 5 race the same year.
John Haschak has held the position of District 3 supervisor since 2019 and announced in December 2025 that he would not seek reelection for the next term. Four candidates were on the ballot for the district: sheriff’s office restorative justice program manager Wright Bourassa, machinist Romero, county fire-safe council director Hart and business owner Green.
The District 3 candidates all appeared at a forum in April at the Little Lake Grange in Willits where they discussed local topics in front of a crowd of more than 100.
The District 5 incumbent, Williams, who has served two terms on the board, is seeking reelection with challengers Anchor Bay resident Evans and Ukiah business owner Lyly running against him.
Williams and Evans spoke at a virtual forum in May, with Lyly not present.
If a candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, they win, but if no one candidate does, the top two vote-getters advance to the November general election. The terms would begin in January 2027.
