FORT BRAGG, CA., 6/28/26 — Fort Bragg voters will be asked to approve a type of property tax in November to finance replacement of $5.5 million in fire department equipment over the next 10 years.

City Manager Isaac Whippy said the department’s needs include engines, command vehicles, water tenders and breathing apparatus.

If approved by two-thirds of voters, the tax would collect $50 per parcel each year for 10 years, Whippy said. It would affect 2,473 parcels and generate about $120,000 annually, he said.

Whippy said voters have approved four tax measures since 1983 to help the fire department acquire equipment. All passed with the two-thirds voter approval necessary for a special tax.

The motion to put the fire tax measure on the ballot passed the council unanimously. Arguments for or against the measure must be submitted to the city clerk by July 6.
