UKIAH, CA., 4/20/26 — California State Senator Mike McGuire will commemorate the opening of a new portion of the Great Redwood Trail in Ukiah on Sunday, April 26. The trail is the country’s largest rail-to-trail project at a distance planned for over 300 miles. The project converts abandoned train tracks into public trails for walking, cycling and public recreation. When complete, it will stretch from San Francisco Bay to past Humboldt Bay, offering non-motorized commuter and tourist experiences through scenic and rugged parts of Northern California.

Attendees can register for a fun run with an optional suggested donation starting at 8 a.m. The 3-mile run or walk will start at 9 a.m., and the ceremony and ribbon-cutting will start at 10 a.m., which will include local dignataries along with McGuire as the keynote speaker.

The event starts at 1601 Airport Rd. in Ukiah on Sunday, April 26, at the end of Airport Park Blvd. Parking is free courtesy of Emerald Sun.
