WILLITS, CA., 3/23/26 – The Willits High School theater department presents “Mean Girls: The Musical (High School Version)” starting Friday, bringing the story of North Shore High to the local stage for a three-show run.

The musical follows Cady Heron, a teenager who enters public high school for the first time after being homeschooled abroad and quickly becomes entangled in the social hierarchy dominated by a popular clique known as “The Plastics.”

As Cady navigates friendships, identity and peer pressure, the story explores themes of belonging, bullying and the consequences of trying to fit in.

Blending comedy with music and dance, the production adapts the tone of the original film into a stage performance aimed at student audiences, while highlighting the challenges of high school social dynamics.

Directed by Timothy Fischer, with music direction by Abigail Strock and choreography by Jaynene Johnson, the production features students performing a stage adaptation of the popular film written by Tina Fey, with music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin.

Admission is free, though donations will be accepted to support the school’s performing arts program, including future productions and equipment.

Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. March 27 and 28, with a 2 p.m. matinee March 29 at the Allen J. Garcia Auditorium at Willits High School, 299 N. Main St., Willits. Call (707) 459-7700 for more information.
