MENDOCINO CO., 3/2/26 – The Mendocino County Fire Safe Council has opened its fifth annual Micro-Grant Program to support community-led efforts aimed at reducing wildfire risk across the county.

Grants will be awarded to Neighborhood Fire Safe Councils, Firewise Communities and fire agencies established before March 1 to support grassroots wildfire preparedness and mitigation projects.

Past grant awards have funded vegetation management, water storage, emergency communication equipment and home hardening efforts.

Projects are expected to involve neighborhoods, volunteers and fire professionals.

“In addition to funding, the grants help spark community organizing, increase volunteer engagement, and build lasting partnerships among neighbors and responders,” the council said in an announcement.

The council will award at least $100,000 in funding, with individual grants ranging from $2,000 to $12,500.

Applications are accepted through March 31. Email Eva King at king@firesafemendocino.org for applications and more information.
