A two-lane rural road curves gently toward a small green truss bridge surrounded by dense spring foliage. The pavement is wet from recent rain, and yellow-striped guardrails line the roadside. Rolling hills and dark trees rise in the background under an overcast sky.

UPDATE, 2/25/26 – Highway 1 is open again, Caltrans said Wednesday night. Drive safe!

MENDOCINO CO., 2/25/26 – A portion of Highway 1 is closed between Point Arena and Manchester due to a flooding Garcia River.

The closure runs from south of Stornetta Drive to Lighthouse Road.

The closure is the result of heavy rain from the atmospheric river, which caused the Garcia River to flood the roadway. A flood watch remains in place for the area until 10 p.m.

Caltrans did not provide a time of reopening.

Caltrans asks motorists to track current road conditions at https://roads.dot.ca.gov/ or by calling 1-800-427-7623.

  1. How does one use Mountain View and Eureka Hill to navigate this? The only routes locals have recommended is backtracking to Boonville and using Fish Rock, and eight unpaved miles on Fish Rock after rains is unappealing.

  2. I understand the the large slide on the south side of Elk Creek (2nd creek south of Elk) now has one way traffic allowed through. Both lanes were completely blocked.
