MENDOCINO CO., 1/22/26 – The Coyote Valley Tribal Health and Human Services Department will host a women’s self-defense class on Thursday that is open to the public.

The class will focus on situational awareness, personal safety strategies, basic self-defense techniques, and confidence-building through movement. Organizers say self-defense training can help participants develop practical skills for responding to unsafe situations while also building confidence and awareness in everyday settings.

The session is open to women of all ages and fitness levels and is not limited to Native American participants. The class will be facilitated by Jimmy Vaca of Mendo Training Center.

Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle.

The class will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at the tribe’s community building, 29 Diwi Drive, in Redwood Valley. Contact Annette Azbill at communityadvocate@coyotevalley-nsn.gov for more information.
