UPDATE 10:05 P.M. – The wildfire is at 40% containment as of 9:59 p.m., according to Cal Fire.
UPDATE 9:30 P.M. – The evacuation warning has been downgraded to situational awareness, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
UPDATE 8:35 P.M. – The wildfire has expanded to 285 acres as of 8:10 p.m., according to Cal Fire.
UPDATE 8:00 P.M. – Cal Fire downgraded the evacuation order to an evacuation warning in an update at 7:40 p.m. The wildfire may still pose a potential threat to life or property, so those who need additional time to leave, such as those with pets or livestock, are encouraged to evacuate immediately.
UPDATE 7:15 P.M. – The wildfire has reached 220 acres and was 15% contained as of 6:34 p.m. Sunday, according to Cal Fire.
MENDOCINO CO., 7/27/25 – A wildfire burning near Covelo in Mendocino County has reached 217 acres and prompted evacuation orders for some residents, the Sheriff’s Office said Sunday afternoon.
Residents north of Hopper Lane and West of Mina Road and state Highway 162 should evacuate immediately, the Sheriff’s Office said at 4:30 p.m.
The official zones for evacuation are MEN-1COV08-B and MEN-1COV13-A, according to Cal Fire.
The fire was first reported around 3:25 p.m. in the area of Rifle Range Road north of Refuse Road in Covelo. At 5:12 p.m., Cal Fire had measured the fire at 217 acres.
