MENDOCINO CO., 5/21/25 – Memorial Day is a day to reflect on and mourn those who died while serving in the military on behalf of the United States.
Memorial Day was founded in 1868 to honor Union soldiers who died in the American Civil War. Today, families, friends and fellow veterans gather around the country to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting our nation’s values.

Boonville
Redwood Empire American Legion Post 385 will host a Memorial Day service at Evergreen Cemetery, 12631 Anderson Valley Way, in Boonville at 11 a.m. For more information contact (707) 972-1462 or patford1945@gmail.com.
Potter Valley
Potter Valley Cemetery hosts a ceremony 93 flags from veterans on display at 10235 West Road at 9 a.m. in Potter Valley. For more information contact Jessica Kimball at (707) 489-3112.
Ukiah
Veterans of Foreign War Post 1900 and American Legion Lewis White Post 76 host the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Russian River Cemetery, 950 Low Gap Rd., in Ukiah at 12 p.m. For more information contact Carole Hester at (707) 972-2795.
Willts
American Legion Post 174 will conduct a memorial ceremony at Willits Cemetery, 1200 Ft. Bragg Rd., at 10 a.m.
A second memorial ceremony will also be conducted at Little Lake Cemetery, 875 E. Hill Rd., in Willits at 11 a.m. American flags placed at both cemeteries will be retired at 3 p.m. after “Taps Across America” is performed.
The Legion will host a Hot Dog BBQ, open to the public, after 3 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building, 189/190 N. Main St., Willits.
