UKIAH, CA., 5/21/25 – A Santa Rosa man with a history of three felony convictions was arrested Monday in Ukiah for allegedly possessing a gun despite being prohibited from possessing firearms, police said.
Around 8:15 a.m. Monday, police officers responded to Airport Park Boulevard to investigate a report of a man walking down the street holding a black handgun.
Officers located the man who allegedly had a gun protruding from his pants pocket. The man was identified as 33-year-old Rahul Shukla.
Shukla showed signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was detained without incident, police said.

The reporting party, an off-duty firefighter, allegedly saw Shukla holding the gun and loading a magazine.
According to police, Shukla had three previously felony convictions and a restraining order disallowing him from possessing a weapon.
Shukla’s car was parked approximately 1 mile away from where he was detained. He consented to a search of his car, police said. In his car, officers allegedly found a large amount of cash and an additional magazine and holsters for the gun.
A search warrant was issued for Shukla’s address in Santa Rosa. No further evidence was found, police said.
Shukla was arrested on suspicion of three felonies: being a felon/addict in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm while convicted of specific offenses, and possession of a firearm in violation of a court order. He was also arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance. He is being held at Mendocino County Jail.
