UKIAH, CA., 5/17/25 — The water main installation project on Gobbi Street between Orchard Avenue and Main Street is finished. Now comes installation of water laterals and tie-ins. Expect short water outages, but residents and businesses will receive a 72-hour notice prior to a shutoff. Some work near Gobbi and Orchard will occur at night to reduce impacts to customers. Nighttime construction hours are 8 p.m.-6 a.m., with likely no more than two to three nights of work. Those dates have not yet been set. Fire hydrants also need to go in, and installs and testing of the system will continue for another two to three weeks.

After all the water tie-ins are complete, concrete crews will construct sidewalks and ADA ramps. That project will take about a week, and is likely to begin the first week of June. Flaggers will be on hand to assist residents and customers of area businesses. Fnal paving won’t begin until mid-summer.

On Main Street, concrete crews have almost completed the sidewalks and ramps and will now pour driveway aprons. Paving is scheduled for mid-June and is expected to take about two weeks.

Paving on West Gobbi will begin June 9.

Perkins Street drilling begins late June

The project area on Perkins is from Orchard Avenue to Hospital Drive. Construction is limited to storm drain work on the north side of the street near Orchard, extending west towards Hospital Drive and also involves the addition of an eastbound lane between the Lucky store west entrance and Orchard, updated traffic signals, sidewalk work, and new pavement and striping.

Construction hours at all locations are M-F, 7 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. There is no work on Memorial Day, May 26. The city wishes to remind residents that the new courthouse project, located adjacent to Perkins across from Hospital Drive, is a state-funded and state-managed project. Ukiah does not have jurisdiction or oversight, but the city will do its best to notify residents about impacts of courthouse construction.
