FORT BRAGG, CA., 5/29/25 – Community members are invited to collect driftwood from Noyo Beach in Fort Bragg to prepare for the city’s annual Fourth of July fireworks celebration, the city said Friday.  

Usually, it is prohibited to remove driftwood, beach wood and other natural materials from protected beaches in California, including Noyo Beach.  

Once a year, the city welcomes beachcombers to collect driftwood that has been washed ashore at the beach adjacent to Noyo Harbor.  

Collection is allowed now through June 30 under the following requirements: 

  • Removal must take place during daylight hours 
  • People removing wood must abide by all park rules posted at the beach 
  • People removing wood should be respectful and cautious of all citizens and pets on the beach at the time of collection and use safe collection practices. 
  • People removing wood must ensure all debris or litter at the collection site is removed and properly discarded 
  • People cannot close the beach or disrupt access other citizens have to the beach and trails 
  • Motorized vehicles are not permitted on the beach or trails beyond the paved parking areas
