UKIAH, CA., 5/30/25 —The city of Ukiah will be holding a public workshop next week to teach residents about the process of annexing new land, a proposal that is currently being considered by its City Council.
The workshop will take place Tuesday at the Ukiah Valley Conference Center, where city employees will attend to answer questions and gather public feedback.
The city of Ukiah is considering an annexation proposal that would incorporate the Willow area south of the city and a portion of Millview to the north. In a unanimous vote at an April City Council meeting, the council agreed to move forward with the proposal presented by city staff, and an application was submitted to the Mendocino Local Agency Formation Commission.
According to Ukiah City Councilmember Juan Orozco, an avid proponent of the annexation proposal, incorporating new land into the city will benefit residents living on the outskirts of Ukiah.
“Everyone within the proposed annexation boundaries will benefit from it,” Orozco said in an interview. “The residents immediately adjacent to the current city limits would greatly appreciate it and are eager to become city of Ukiah residents.”
But the proposal has been controversial among local farmers and other residents who have raised concerns about their properties being incorporated into the city. Many have expressed confusion about how the annexation process works and how to file a formal protest.
A group of constituents has also formed a Facebook group titled “No Ukiah Annexation” to protest the proposal and share information about city meetings so residents can attend and voice their opinions.
According to the city of Ukiah’s website, next week’s workshop will “provide an overview of the areas involved, the reasons for annexation, and what the process means for residents, property owners, and the broader community.”
The city of Ukiah’s annexation workshop will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ukiah Valley Conference Center, 200 S. School St.
Ukiah’s Planning Commission will also discuss the next steps of the annexation proposal at 6 p.m. June 11 at the Ukiah Civic Center, 300 Seminary Ave.

What constitutes Millview and Willow. This story is lacking in context.
The use of the word constituents is incorrect in this article. A constituent is someone represented by a politician, in this case the people opposed to annexation are very explicitly not constituents of any city council member. “City council” is not a proper noun at the top and should not be capitalized. I’d like to see a map of what you’re talking about the area you gonna take over as a city.
