MENDOCINO CO., 11/29/24 – Want to help shape the future of forest health in northern Mendocino County? If so, consider becoming a volunteer with the Eel River Recovery Project.
The Humboldt County-based project is looking for volunteers to learn the skill of implementing a prescribed burn to clear fuels and reduce invasive species encroachment as part of the multi-year Tenmile Creek Forest Health Project.
Volunteers will be trained in pile burning, rick burning and how to use a portable biochar kiln, three tools critical to helping fire-risk areas become healthy again.
During the workshop, Will Emerson of the Northern Mendocino Ecosystem Recovery Alliance will guide volunteers on lighting, monitoring and quenching burn piles.
The free workshop takes place Dec. 7 north of Laytonville and is limited to 30 attendees. Pre-registration is required by contacting Alicia Bales of the Eel River Recovery Project at (916) 595-8724 or abaleslittletree@gmail.com.
