UKIAH, CA., 11/19/24 – The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office released the name of an inmate who died in custody in October. The man was identified as 40-year-old Issa Niambele of Ukiah, the Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

On the evening of Oct. 29, a corrections deputy at the Mendocino County Jail found Niambele unresponsive in a holding cell during a routine safety check. Corrections, jail and fire personnel implemented lifesaving efforts on Niambele, eventually regaining a pulse.

Niambele was transported to the Adventist Health Ukiah Valley hospital for emergency care. He was pronounced dead at 12:14 a.m. on Oct. 30.

The cause and manner of Niambale’s death is pending official determination by the Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy-Coroner.

  1. The jail can’t keep people inside of it safe from the outside. I thought that the outside was where the danger is! So when it starts filling up with addicts after sheriff Matt “I’m working for free” Kendall has his way with prop 36, how many more overdoses will there be? Any information on the investigation of how these overdoses happened in jail? Crickets. Is there an investigation? Who will say? Looking forward to hearing the truth about this but I expect nothing from the currently retired-on-the-job elected welfare king of the county.
