MENDOCINO CO., 11/14/24 – A prescribed pile burn will take place on Friday in Hopland according to the Tribal EcoRestoration Alliance.
The burn is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. on Friday east of U.S. Route 101 on land owned by the Hopland Band of Pomo Indians.
The alliance is partnering with the tribe and Cal Fire to implement the burn.
The burn may be delayed or canceled depending on weather conditions, said the alliance. Smoke may be visible from the Hopland area and Highway 101.
“In the event the public smells smoke, they are urged to take precautions and use common sense to reduce any harmful health effects by limiting outdoor activities,” advised the alliance, “Local residents are advised to close windows and doors to prevent smoke from entering their homes. There is potential for some residual smoke overnight and into the following days. The burn area will continue to be patrolled until all heat has been extinguished.”
