WILLITS, CA., 11/15/24 – “A scalpel-wielding dissection of the fetishization of wifeliness, a 21st-century cultural cul-de-sac populated and policed almost entirely by women,” is how The Guardian described the debut performance of “Home, I’m Darling” in England in 2018.
Written by British playwright Laura Wade, the play “Home, I’m Darling” is an exploration of retro gender roles in a contemporary world.
“It tells the story of Judy and Johnny, two young Brits who try to navigate the swirling rapids of marriage by reverting to the gender roles of the 1950s,” says the Willits Community Theatre, “The play cleverly portrays the absurdity of having a 1950s TV show-type marriage in the modern day.”
The theater will host a staged reading of “Home, I’m Darling” this weekend. The performance is directed by local Sarah France and will star Haley Morse, Jeshua Holt, Kary Kay Schweig, Joshua Sternberg, Ashley Rodriguez and France.
A staged reading offers the audience a more intimate experience during which performers read the play aloud from a script. There is minimal staging, costuming and lighting.
“Home, I’m Darling” takes place Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Willits Community Theatre, 37 W. Van Lane, Willits. Tickets are $10.
