A wooden roadside sign marks the entrance to Jackson Demonstration State Forest, set against tall redwood trees. The sign reads “Entering Jackson Demonstration State Forest,” with the Cal Fire emblem and “Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, State of California,” mounted on a stone base amid grass and forest understory.

MENDOCINO CO., 9/25/24 – All campgrounds and roads in Jackson Demonstration State Forest, with few exceptions, will close for the season on Tuesday, said Cal Fire.

The annual closures are due to seasonal wet weather, which can result in wet and dangerous conditions, such as rutting and erosion.

Despite the roads being closed to unauthorized vehicles, hikers can still utilize the roads.

The following roads are expected to stay open during the winter, with possible closures due to road or weather conditions:

-Road 200 (closed between Road 250 and 1000 until Nov. 15, 2024)
-Road 250
-Road 350 (access to Camp 1 Day Use Area)
-Road 500
-Road 700 (to Mendocino Woodlands State Park)
-Road 810
-Road 900 (only to Road 810/920)

The agency anticipates the roads and campgrounds reopening in the spring.

Closures maps and forest alerts can be found at https://www.fire.ca.gov/what-we-do/natural-resource-management/demonstration-state-forests/jackson-demonstration-state-forest.
