UPDATE, 12/1/18 — Hwy. 128 was reopened early this morning. It’s not clear if the sandbar has been totally breached, or if the road remains prone to flooding.

MENDOCINO CO., 11/30/18 — The traditional closure of State Route 128, due to the Navarro River sandbar, has begun. The highway has been closed due to flooding from the junction with Hwy. 1 to mile marker 11.75, west of Navarro. The sandbar that periodically accumulates near the mouth of the river has not yet been breached this season, and as a result the river is backing up onto the highway. As of the time of publication, CalTrans has announced that SR 128 will be closed at SR 1 and there is no estimated time of re-opening.

CalTrans will monitor the situation and the road will be re-opened when the water recedes.

CalTrans announced the closure via Facebook and Twitter:
