MENDOCINO CO., 6/3/18 โ€” Sometime around 11:30 a.m. a small wildfire broke out just west of Willits. The smoke was visible from town, and could be smelled. The fire, dubbed the “Pepperwood Incident,” is now fully contained, and CalFire is canceling resources. According to the scanner, the fire was burning in grass, and only got up to about a half acre, thanks to the quick action of CalFire.

Judging by the direction of the smoke and the name given to the fire, it appears to have been burning near Pepperwood Lane, near the Willits Cemetery.

It is unclear what the cause of the fire was. Nor do we yet have a list of all agencies that responded.

We will update when more information is available.
