UPDATE: 3:45pm: The fire has been contained at about two acres, resources remain on scene and crews will be mopping up in the area for another hour or so, according to Emily Smith at CalFire.

MENDOCINO CO., 7/13/17 — A grass fire is burning about four miles up Bell Springs Road north of Laytonville, near 61300 Bell Springs Road. It began around 11:35 am, and is around two acres, according to scanner reports. Emily Smith, temporary spokesperson for the Howard Forest CalFire station, says the fire is spreading slow but has not yet been contained.
CalFire aircraft, engines, handcrews, Laytonville Fire and other ground crews are currently responding and were on the scene as of 11:55am. Smith said that the response includes four CalFire engines, two handcrews, one bulldozer, two airtankers, one helicopter, and the air attack, which is a fixed wing aircraft that acts as air traffic control for the incident.
