UKIAH, CA., 3/27/26 — The Ukiah Animal Shelter on Plant Road will host a mass spay and neuter event May 1-3. Cost is $122 per animal, paid at the time of booking, by credit card over the phone. Appointments are available for Mendocino County residents only.

Multiple animals from the same household or family will be accepted for this event. However, no dogs over 90 pounds or brachycephalic breeds (pugs, bulldogs, frenchies) and no trapped feral cats can participate in this low-cost event.

Drop-off times are in the early morning with pickup times in the afternoon or early evening.

The low cost covers the surgery, any necessary vaccines, and a microchip. That amount, paid at time of booking, is not refundable or transferable if you cancel or miss your appointment. The event is held with the help of Dogwood Animal Rescue and Animal Balance in order to get 200 Mendocino County animals fixed.

To book an appointment, call 707-463-4782. The shelter advises that a high volume of calls means that at times the mail box will be full or it may take a day or two for someone to return your call. Be patient and speak clearly when leaving a message with your first and last name and phone number.

The shelter also advises that if callers were on a previous wait list for spay and neuter appointments, those callers must call again to register for this May event. Appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Calling now is the best chance to book an open spot for the 200 opportunities to spay or neuter your pet.
