MENDOCINO CO., 2/24/26 – The California Highway Patrol is asking drivers to avoid a portion of Highway 1 in Mendocino County due to flooding Tuesday.

A part of the highway is flooded between MacKerricher State Park and Bruhel Point Road north of Fort Bragg.

Social media videos show vehicles driving around flood waters along the highway and the park entrance inundated with water.

The CHP had said around 4:45 p.m. that a 10 mile stretch of the highway was closed but later confirmed that the highway was open and drivers should avoid the area.

The flooding comes as an atmospheric river blankets the area, bringing up to 5 inches of rain to the region, the National Weather Service said.

A flood watch remains in effect for the Mendocino Coast until 10 p.m.
