MENDOCINO CO., 2/9/26 – Dharma Realm Buddhist University will host a free public lecture Thursday exploring connections between ancient Greek philosophy and Buddhist thought.

Dr. Peter Moore will present “Plato in Dialogue with Buddhism,” in which he will discuss ideas from Plato’s “Theaetetus,” a dialogue in which Socrates questions whether truth and knowledge are fixed or constantly changing. One of the central ideas examined is the claim that people understand the world differently based on their own experience.

The lecture will also look at how these ideas compare with Buddhist teachings that emphasize how all things are interconnected and always in the process of change. Moore will explore where these two traditions overlap and where they differ.

Moore, an assistant professor at the university, holds a doctorate in ancient Greek philosophy and has long studied and practiced Buddhism. His work focuses on finding points of connection between ancient Greek philosophy and Buddhist thought.

“Plato in Dialogue with Buddhism” is free and open to the public. It will take place Thursday, Feb. 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the downstairs student lounge at Dharma Realm Buddhist University, 1991 Virtue Way, Ukiah. Visit https://www.drbu.edu/events/ to learn more.
