UKIAH, CA., 2/2/26 – The photography of Bobby Cochran, a Ukiah artist with a national presence, will be featured in the upcoming exhibition “Liminal Terrain,” opening Friday at MEDIUM Art Center.

Before pursuing photography, Cochran worked in the music industry as a touring drummer, engineer and producer.

That background has informed a portfolio rich with portraits of musicians and artists, including former Mendocino County resident and Billboard-charting country musician Charley Crockett.

When not photographing rock stars, Cochran documents both the mundane and the momentous moments of daily life — cowboys riding through misty mornings, a couple exploring a coastal bluff, or a quiet reflection over a cup of morning coffee.

His surreal documentary style will be the focus of the solo exhibition “Liminal Presence.”

According to the gallery, Cochran explores “the space between presence and absence, stillness and change … using light, texture and atmosphere to draw attention to what exists just beyond the obvious.”

“Liminal Presence” runs Feb. 6 through March 3 at MEDIUM Art Gallery, 110 S. School St., in Ukiah.

An opening reception featuring the music of Spidermonkey Beats with DJs Alterium and Marus takes place from 5-8 p.m. on Friday. Visit http://www.mediumarts.org for more information.
