  1. Why is sexual preference something to celebrate and be “proud” of? To each their own, but we should have pride in our accomplishments. I wonder if my son came home bragging about taking it in the butt, if my first reaction would be pride…would his?? Pride is a deadly sin. I think it would be more acceptable to be called something other than “pride,” but honestly, at this rate, it’s just a brand to sell rainbow shit

    1. the peace and love group that screams use my pronouns (which the SCOTUS has said speech cannot be mandated) and accept me as I am while pushing a perverse lifestyle in everyone’s face. Live your life but stay the heck out of mine.

    2. For centuries, LGBTQ people have been persecuted simply for existing. In the 70s gays were beaten by police simply for being gay, even now transgender people are denied medical care, and it was illegal for two people of the same sex to marry until 2015. Through many years of protest, LGBTQ people were able to change laws so that they could be themselves without fear. THAT is what they are proud of; proud of the progress society has made, and pride for the people that made it happen. Much like on the 4th of July when we celebrate America’s freedom from the British, LGBT people celebrate in June for their freedom from hatred.

It’s important to note that nobody is forcing you to participate in pride celebrations. If it’s not your cup of tea, that’s fine. Just ignore it. Hating on people for participating though just isn’t right. The first amendment means that people have the freedom to express themselves however they want, which includes pride celebrations.

  2. Why do hateful bigots rush to display their ignorance whenever LGBTQ+ issues are discussed? Their intolerance reinforces the need for Pride Month & education.
Thank you, Mendocino Voice, for posting info on these events.

  3. And, The Art Center Ukiah/Corner Gallery is mounting a month-long Pride exhibit, opening June 6th, in honor of Pride month! Pride is for everyone.

  4. Not sure how much personal capital it takes to accept others for who they are? It seems pretty basic to me. Golden Rule type stuff. Live and let live credo. Call people what they wanna be called. If we are looking to SCOTUS to set our collective moral compass, that’s a recipe to get lost. Legal systems set the laws, but we, individually, decide what’s right/ moral etc, for ourselves and our families. It costs me nothing to love and accept you, just as you are, and if you tell me that you are “Ralph from Mars” then I’m gonna say, “Okay Ralph from Mars, let’s get to work mending this fence/ painting this wall/ planting this garden.” ‘Cause when we work together we get more done— that’s the accomplishment!
