MENDOCINO CO., 3/10/25 – The annual Congressional Art Competition is accepting submissions from high school students throughout Mendocino County, Rep. Jared Huffman’s (D-San Rafael) said.  

Every year, thousands of high school students across the country submit their finest work of art to their local congressional representative’s office. After much deliberation, each representative selects a winning artwork to represent their district for one year at a gallery at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.  

Last year, Tiah Ross-Butner of Ukiah High School won the competition with her painting “Where We Come From – Klamath River.”  

Students from throughout the 2nd District (Marin, Mendocino, Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties and a portion of Sonoma County) are invited to submit their art if it meets the following requirements:  

  • Artwork must be up to 26 inches in height by 26 inches in width by 4 inches in depth (including the frame).  
  • Mediums accepted:  
  • Paintings (i.e., oil, acrylics, watercolor) 
  • Drawings (i.e., pastels, pencil, charcoal, ink, markers) 
  • Collage 
  • Prints (i.e. lithographs, silkscreen, block prints) 
  • Mixed media 
  • Computer generated art 
  • Photography 
  • All art must be an original concept, design and execution  
  • One submission per student
