MENDOCINO CO., 11/4/24 – The National Weather Service Eureka issued a red flag warning for parts of eastern Mendocino County. PG&E also announced some customers may have their power shut off because of increased wildfire risk.

The red flag warning goes into effect Tuesday at 3 p.m. and expires at 7 a.m. on Thursday, said the weather service.

Lake County is expected to get the brunt of the offshore winds, with gusts up to 50 mph possible in higher elevations and gusts of 45 mph in lower elevations. The entire county is under a red flag warning.

However, parts of eastern Mendocino County are also at risk of increased fire danger.

As a result, Round Valley, Dos Rios, Potter Valley and most of the northeastern part of the county are under the red flag warning.

According to the weather service, these areas can expect northeast winds of 15-25 mph with gusts from 35-45 mph. Isolated high elevation areas may experience gusts up to 50 mph.

“Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly,” said the weather service. “Outdoor burning is not recommended.” Residents are asked to visit readyforwildfire.org to learn more about how to avoid starting wildfires and how to prepare for fire weather.
