MENDOCINO CO., 8/30/24 – The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) announced Thursday that $180,000 in funding is available to organizations promoting agricultural education and leadership activities.
Grants are available for two different tiers of organizations. The first is for California Future Farmers of America (FFA) programs. Grants are available to FFA groups starting at $10,000 to provide effective agricultural education programming. The second tier is available to nonprofits and Indian tribal government agencies that “promote and administer agricultural education and leadership programs targeting K-12, post-secondary, and adult education,” according to the CDFA. To receive a grant, elementary, secondary and post-secondary schools must partner with nonprofits. Grants will range from $2,500 to $10,000.
The funding for these grants comes from the sales of the state’s CalAgPlate, an agriculture-themed license plate available through the California Department of Motor Vehicles. According to the CDFA, “The CalAgPlate program has funded more than $2.3 million in youth educational activities since the program’s inception.”
