Dear Editor:
On May 21, 2025, the County of Mendocino sent a letter to U.S. Congressman Jared Huffman stating strong opposition to the SAVE Act (Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility). The bill has now passed the House. We are asking readers to send letters thanking our senators for their opposition to the bill to Senators Alex Padilla {331 Hart Senate Office Building, Washington DC 20510; (202) 224-3553 and Adam Schiff (112 Hart Senate Office Building, Washington DC 20510; (202) 224-3841).
Despite its name, the SAVE Act would impose significant new restrictions on voter registration processes and shift the burden of proof of citizenship onto individuals and local election offices—despite the fact that non-citizens are already prohibited from voting in federal and California elections under existing law.
This legislation would require every voter—newly registering or updating their registration—to present documentary proof of U.S. citizenship. Acceptable documents would likely include a birth certificate, U.S. passport, or naturalization papers. The mandate would apply retroactively to all voters whose citizenship status cannot be confirmed in existing databases, regardless of how long they have been registered.

It is even more important that we make our voices heard with the threat of a ballot measure in November, urging many of these same requirements.
The League of Women Voters of Mendocino County is urging you to stand with the LWV California and Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., who has expressed grave concerns about this act and the potential ballot measure, stating that it would “make it harder for all eligible voters to cast their votes and participate in our democracy” and would reverse decades of progress toward broadening access to the ballot.
Thank you for your consideration
Charlene McAllister, President
League of Women Voters Mendocino County

League of Women Voters and Mendocino County are election cheaters, plain and simple. They want all those illegal aliens Joke Biden let in to our country to vote democrap.

1. Non-citizens are already prohibited from voting.
2. The border is secure.
3. Inflation was at 9% when Biden took office.
4. The high price for gasoline in California is Trump’s fault.
“The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those who speak it.” – George Orwell
Just follow the original law which is still in effect all over the US! Quit finding ways to cheat! Quit trying to change a law that has always been in effect. Just stop trying to CHEAT!!!
CA and Mendo County LWV adopt Chicago rules:
“Vote early, vote often”.
If I have to show my ID at the Library, I can certainly show my ID to vote. What’s the problem?
Do you have to show your Passport or birth certificate at the library?
What is this – Casablanca? Show me your papers! Why? If you can see me I exist. This proposed law is nothing but a pathetic attempt to cheat. In no time our voting system will become that of Russia where they come to your house and present you with a completed ballot and you are forced to sign. How would that be the America First, freedom philosophy? It’s rank authoritarianism.
Wake up, stand up and fight for your right to exist – without looney ID laws. Just makes me sad, mad and eventually bad.
If you can see me I deserve a driver’s license. If you can see me I am entitled to vote, (for a Democrat only).
In California if you have a mailing address or go to DMV you will get a ballot, just give your “word” that you are a citizen. If you don’t speak English you will be asked in various languages, then check the box, no one will ever follow-up. Good to go.
Under this system it will be like “voting” in other 3rd World Countries where the tyrant got “99% of the vote.” The opposing candidate is in prison or “disappeared.” But hey, we held a Democratic election.

This proposed law will disenfrancise millions of married and divorced women whose married name on their ID does not match the name on their birth certificates. How many women in their 50s or 60s still can easily access the paperwork to prove who they are? It was difficult for many when applying for r Real I Ds.
Elizabeth Warren already said that. She was poo poo’d. Ran away from the cameras. Because it does not hold up. How do you file your taxes if you do not go through the process of getting your name correct?
