MENDOCINO CO., 1/7/26 — A 15-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly bringing a stolen handgun to Round Valley High School in Covelo on Tuesday, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded shortly after noon Tuesday to a report from a school official about someone who reportedly brought a firearm to the campus. The deputies learned that the school was on its lunch break and that the allegedly armed student was likely not on the campus, sheriff’s officials said.
Deputies and Round Valley tribal police officers searched the area, and at about 12:30 p.m. saw a boy walking west on Greely Street about 150 yards east of the campus. Deputies detained him, then found a loaded .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun in his front waistband. Investigators determined the gun had been reported stolen from Santa Rosa.
The boy, a 15-year-old Covelo resident whose name isn’t being released because he is a juvenile, was arrested and booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of being a minor in possession of a handgun and carrying a loaded firearm in public.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center at (707) 463-4086 and select option 1.
