MENDOCINO CO., 1/9/25 – A man was arrested near Covelo on Tuesday on suspicion of burglarizing a home and stealing a vehicle, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office said.

At about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, sheriff’s deputies and officers from the Round Valley Tribal Police Department responded to a report of an attempted burglary in the 23500 block of Cemetery Lane, southeast of Covelo.

Upon arrival, deputies found a man allegedly armed with a rifle. According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies ordered the man to drop the weapon multiple times, but he refused.

The man eventually dropped the gun, told deputies it was a BB gun and went back inside the home. He later reemerged, allegedly smoking a methamphetamine pipe, and surrendered, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Following an investigation, deputies identified the man as Jordan Michael Lewis, 24, of Covelo. Deputies alleged Lewis burglarized the home and stole a vehicle that contained property taken from the residence.

Deputies later confirmed the gun was a BB gun.

Lewis was arrested on suspicion of two felonies — first-degree burglary and vehicle theft — and two misdemeanors: resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer, and possession of a controlled substance. He was also arrested on two outstanding misdemeanor warrants.

Lewis was booked into the Mendocino County Jail and remains held on $27,500 bail.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 707-463-4086, Option 1.
