FORT BRAGG, CA., 1/7/25 – The Fort Bragg Food Bank launched a cold-weather drive Wednesday requesting donations of tents, warm clothing and cold-weather gear.

“As the weather turns colder and wetter, our unhoused neighbors are in urgent need of tents, sleeping bags, rain gear and warm clothing,” the food bank said in a statement. “New or gently used items can make a huge difference — and even save a life.”

The food bank is seeking donations of new and gently used items, including:

  • Tents
  • Sleeping bags
  • Rain jackets and ponchos
  • Warm coats, sweaters and hoodies
  • Gloves, hats and scarves
  • Cold-weather gear of all kinds

The food bank asks community members to clear out closets, garages and camping gear and donate what they can.

“Together, we can wrap our community in warmth, dignity and care — one sleeping bag at a time,” the food bank said.

Donations may be dropped off during business hours only. Hours and donation information are available at https://www.fortbraggfoodbank.org/ or by calling (707) 964-9404.

  1. Is there any place for the unhoused to pitch a tent without being harassed and bullied?

If it’s illegal to sleep in public, there needs to be an acre somewhere designated for people to legally “be”.

    Humans need sleep 💤.

Imo, it should be illegal to NOT provide/designated a safe area for the unhoused to park their tent or car/ bicycle, etc overnight.

It’s our God given right to sleep. We cannot survive without it. Just saying….what good is a tent and sleeping bag if there’s nowhere to put it.
