MENDOCINO CO., 1/9/26 — Cal Fire will hold “Forest, Flora, Fauna and Fungi Foray” at the site it manages, Jackson Demonstration State Forest, with walks to teach community members about mushrooms, plants, and animals in the region.

The first walk will be held Jan. 15 at 11 a.m. at state Highway 20 and Road 900, and the second will be on Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. at Camp 20.

According to a flyer from Cal Fire, “These tours are for advanced study mycologists and the general public alike, no prior knowledge needed!”

The tours will be led by state forest biologists, who will walk with attendees and answer questions about the forest’s biodiversity. These strolls are less than a mile and a half and are not strenuous. The length can be adjusted for people with mobility issues.

Attendees must purchase mushroom permits before attending the fungi tours, Cal Fire said.

To buy a permit or get more information about the walks, visit fire.ca.gov or call (707) 964-5674.

Attendees should be prepared for wet weather and brushy terrain. Dates are subject to change if severe weather occurs.
