MENDOCINO CO., 11/28/25 – The National Weather Service is warning of sneaker waves along the Mendocino Coast on Saturday.
The weather service is urging people to avoid steep beaches, rocks and jetties. The advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday.
According to the weather service, “large, unexpected waves can sweep across the beach without warning, sweeping people into the sea from rocks, jetties and beaches.”
Large objects such as logs can be moved by the waves, potentially crushing people and pets caught underneath, the agency said.
“Don’t be fooled by an ocean that looks calm,” the weather service said. “There can be 30 minutes of small waves before a sneaker wave strikes … stay much farther back from the water and never turn your back on the ocean.”
