FORT BRAGG, CA., 11/5/25 – Award-winning painter Susan Kay Barnes is the featured artist for November at Edgewater Gallery in Fort Bragg.
Barnes was named the winner of Edgewater’s juried exhibition, “Reminiscence,” which drew submissions from artists across the country.
Her light-filled watercolor and oil paintings focus on natural subjects found in Hawaii, Utah and Northern California. Known for her rich brushstrokes and use of color, Barnes offers viewers an intimate glimpse into her creative process.

Barnes spent her formative artistic years in Hawaii during the 1980s, painting sunsets and seascapes. She later settled in Sacramento, where she operated her own gallery and promoted the arts through community events.
Recently, Barnes and her husband moved to the Mendocino Coast, where she continues to find inspiration in the region’s dramatic landscapes and welcoming community.
“I love dramatic views and color, so I am drawn to capture these things for others to enjoy. I love the waves of the sea, the sounds and the peace of the ocean, the beautiful flowers and trees, and the dramatic coastline here on the Mendocino Coast. It is here that I love to work,” Barnes said in a statement about the solo exhibition.
Her exhibition features impressionistic works that fans of Monet, Cassatt and their peers will appreciate.
The works of Susan Kay Barnes are on exhibit Wednesday, Nov. 5 through Dec. 2 at Edgewater Gallery, 356 N. Main St., Fort Bragg. A special First Friday opening reception will be held Friday, Nov. 7 from 5- 8 p.m. Call (707) 964-4668 or visit http://edgewater-gallery.com for more information.
